Pre-School

Pre-School at St John’s, Orpington

For children aged 2½ – 5 years

Meeting:   During the school terms from 9:15am

St John’s URC Preschool Group has been operating for over 40 years and is a very happy and successful organisation.  Each morning during term time, we welcome up to 40 children aged from 2½ years until they go to school.  We are Ofsted registered and a member of the Preschool Learning Alliance.

Our aim is to provide a friendly, caring and secure environment where children are able to choose new experiences while developing social skills.  All children are treated as individuals and we seek to meet all multicultural needs.  We want the children to learn alongside having fun.

The children are looked after by a team of eight adults each day.  Each child is assigned a keyworker who monitors the child’s progress during their time at Preschool.  The children have a huge range of activities to choose from over the course of a week: sand and water play, dressing up, gluing and painting, construction toys, games which encourage speech and sharing, cooking, role play to name but a few.

During the course of the morning, the children are split into small groups to spend a small amount of time on focus activities to enhance their individual learning.   There is an outside play area which the children have the opportunity to play in every day; giving them access to plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Once a year we hold a sports day at Poverest Park and the children are sponsored to walk there.  On the last day of the Spring term, we held an “Easter Bonnet Parade” when the children had the opportunity to show off to their parents the bonnets they had each made.

We have a strong parent network and our parent reps hold regular coffee mornings to fundraise for the Preschool.

Anyone is welcome to visit us at any time to get a taste of life at our Preschool.
