Thursday Club

For all members of the community meeting each Thursday afternoon.

Meeting: Every Thursday afternoon (except during August) 2:00 until 4:00pm

Offers a relaxing afternoon for meeting and making friends every Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm. There are two hours of entertainment which include talks on a variety of interesting subjects, talented singers and instrumentalists, sing-a-longs, quizzes and always finishing with a cup of tea and some homemade cakes.

The Thursday (formerly) Friendship Club has been running for over forty years for both ladies and gentlemen.

3 MARPETER PATTYAN ILLUSTRATED TALK –   CHANGING ROOMS – INTERIORS THROUGH THE AGES          This talk looks at the development of the kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom from 1066. Changes of room designs that influenced the way we lived and allowed us to extend life expectancy over the centuries are identified and celebrated.
10 MARBARBARA DARBYAN ILLUSTRATED TALK –   OUT AND ABOUT WITH MY CAMERA
17 MARGILLY HALCROW AN ILLUSTRATED TALK –  THE SHETLAND BUS       This is the story of the brave Norwegian sailors, during World War 11, who were organized by the SOE. They kept links open between occupied Norway and Britain with their fishing boats. They took agents in with supplies for the resistance and they took escaping refugees out. Not only did they have to face sub-artic storms in the North Sea but also the might of the Nazi war machine out searching for them.
24 MARPETER HARTLEYTALK –  A ROYAL INTERLUDE            Peter Hartley has been our guest speaker many times.  He used to work at Buckingham Palace and has many interesting stories to share.
